LL-37 (also known as human cathelicidin) is a naturally occurring 37-amino-acid antimicrobial peptide and the only cathelicidin found in humans. It is produced by immune cells (such as neutrophils and macrophages) and epithelial cells as part of the innate immune system. LL-37 exhibits broad-spectrum activity against bacteria, viruses, fungi, and even some parasites. Beyond direct antimicrobial effects, it also modulates inflammation, promotes wound healing, and regulates immune responses.
