Cerebrolysin
Description
Cerebrolysin is a low-molecular-weight neuropeptide mixture (free of lipids and antigenic proteins) extracted from porcine brain via enzymatic purification, containing multiple neurotrophic factor analogs and amino acids. It is a multi-target neuroprotective drug that mimics endogenous neurotrophic factors, crosses the blood-brain barrier, and acts directly on the central nervous system. It is approved in many countries (Europe, Asia, etc.) for treating cerebrovascular diseases, traumatic brain injury, and dementia, and is primarily administered via intravenous infusion in clinical practice. This content is for research and reference only and should not be construed as medical advice.
Effects
Neuroprotection and repair: promotes neuronal survival, synaptogenesis, and neurogenesis, enhancing brain self-repair capacity. Cognitive improvement: improves memory, attention, and executive function; provides adjunctive improvement in Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia. Stroke and traumatic brain injury: accelerates recovery in the acute phase, improves motor function and cognitive function, enhances activities of daily living and quality of life. Others: anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, stabilizes blood-brain barrier; may improve depressive symptoms and overall neurological function. Features: rapid onset of action, multimodal mechanism (neurotrophic + neuroprotective), distinct from traditional drug mechanisms.
Usage
Administration: primarily slow intravenous infusion (IV drip); also intramuscular injection (IM). Reference dosage (to be followed as per physician): Stroke/TBI: 20–50 mL daily for 10–21 days. Dementia: 10–30 mL daily, 5 days/week for 4 weeks (repeated courses possible). General cognitive improvement: 5–10 mL per dose, adjusted according to condition. Infusion method: dilute with saline or glucose solution; infusion time 15–60 minutes; avoid mixing with other drugs. Treatment courses typically involve intensive therapy in the acute phase and intermittent repetition in later stages.
Not suitable for
Contraindicated in individuals allergic to porcine proteins or any component of this product. Use with caution in severe renal insufficiency and epilepsy. Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be weighed against potential benefits and risks. Too rapid infusion may increase adverse reactions; administer slowly. Monitor neurological function and vital signs during use.
Ingredients
Active ingredient: Cerebrolysin concentrate (each mL contains 215.2 mg of porcine brain-derived low-molecular-weight neuropeptide and amino acid mixture). Other: sodium hydroxide (pH adjustment), water for injection.
Storage
Before opening: store at room temperature (not exceeding 25°C), protect from light, do not freeze. After opening/dilution: use as soon as possible according to instructions; diluted solution is stable for a limited time at room temperature. Avoid high temperature and strong light.
