Survodutide is a novel long-acting dual glucagon/GLP-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1/GCGR dual agonist) developed for the treatment of obesity, overweight, and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH). It combines the appetite-suppressing and glucose-lowering effects of GLP-1 receptor activation with the energy expenditure-increasing and liver fat-reducing effects of glucagon receptor activation. This dual mechanism allows for potentially greater weight loss compared to GLP-1 agonists alone. Administered as a once-weekly subcutaneous injection, survodutide has shown impressive results in clinical trials, with average weight loss up to approximately 16-18% after 76 weeks in Phase 3 studies. It is also being investigated for its benefits on liver fat reduction and cardiovascular outcomes.
